Why I love Sundays

Sunday's are one of my favorite days of the week. Simply because we get to spend all day
together. We go to Church and then get to relax and just simply enjoy the day.
1. We made dinner. Steak and potatoes. (P.S that's just Cran-Rasberry Juice and it is GOOD!)
2. We took a nap. Its the only day we get to all week long and I LOVE naps.

  3. I cut Koopers hair. He was super nervous because I don't cut hair but it looks FINE! He says its a buzz cut,
I hate buzz cuts. BUT.... He admits its better than his long mop.

  4. Then we carved our pumpkin finally! Its our first real Halloween together. Kooper was so nice and cleaned out all the guts inside! Last year we were engaged but this year we are married! Kooper really wanted to go hunting this year and it just didn't work out so instead we carved some deer on our pumpkins. Kind of the same thing right?

 5. Then we made PUMPKIN SEEDS! Yum yum yum. There like all gone already too! If you want to know how to make them click here!
6. In the process of this all we were making homemade bread! We both keep telling each other, "lets make bread," and we never do but finally we did today! We got a bread maker and so we just put the ingredients in and it made away. For some reason it didn't flatten out and turned out to be this funky look loaf but it tasted good still. There is a first for everything right! I just need a good recipe now! WHO HAS ONE?

How to Overcome Emotional Eating

What stimulates people to eat in response to their emotions? First step in figuring out the answer to this question is to understand which emotions trigger you to act out by eating. Ask yourself these questions. Do you eat when you are anxious, angry, happy, or upset? Can you sit down watching TV with a bag of chips and eat the whole bag before realizing? Do you eat when you are hungry or because you are bored, or need something to do? Do you eat for social activities or because that’s what other people around you are doing? Emotional eating can be a huge barrier to weight loss by adding the unnecessary calories to your diet, and relying on food for emotional coping.  Next time you sit down to eat, ask yourself are you truly hungry, is your stomach empty, or are you doing this for some other reason?

A lot of emotional eating can be stemmed from childhood. Frequently at times we associate food with comfort. When a baby begins to cry we offer them a bottle, when children injure themselves we offer a cookie or a treat, when a child overreacts to calm them we offer them a treat. We have raised children to allow eating as an escape and to be a distraction for their pain and/or problems. Has that carried over as you have grown older, do you still search for the treat or dessert to satisfy you when you feel upset, injured, or alone? I think almost everyone, at some point, has been an emotional eater. Sometimes we think of emotional eating as being a problem people act on when they are upset or dealing with stress. That isn’t always the answer; we also eat when we are happy. We eat to celebrate holidays, birthdays, new jobs, winning activities, and so forth.  The truth is, when emotional eating becomes a major coping mechanism for your emotions is when you have the real problem. Listed below is 10 ways to help overcome emotional eating.

1.     Pay attention to the types of food you’re drawn to when you eat. This will help you determine whether or not you are eating out of hunger or whether you are eating to satisfy a craving.  If you all of a sudden desire a hot fudge sundae then you can easily tell that is to satisfy a craving. Write it down; write down when you ate, what you ate, and how you felt before and after. This will help you determine what types of feelings lead you to the kitchen and what your going to eat as a result of those feelings. Then you figured those things out you can come up with “alternative actions” to help deal with these emotions.

2.     Pay attention to your food. That might seem like an obvious thing, but often times we keep eating and eating until we are so full we want to lie down. When you eat, take the time to just eat. Don’t watch TV, talk on the phone, or be at your computer. Take the time to taste your food and enjoy it. That’s what food is all about, and sometimes we take for granted the ability to taste and enjoy food. Then when you feel comfortably full, stop eating; do not let yourself get stuffed. It takes your brain and stomach almost 20 minutes for the food to tell your body that it is full. If you eat quickly and without thinking you will most likely of eaten more than you needed. Take the time to eat slowly. If you need to use your less dominate hand, or use a smaller utensil to help slow you down then do so. Correspondingly, don’t forget to drink and eat at the same time. Often times, people will go through their whole meal without taking a drink. Drinks will help you feel full faster. Remember, you don’t have to cut out all the foods you love its about portion control, how much of it and how often. If you try to restrict all the foods you love, you will be likely to turn to them in times of emotional eating.

3.     Healthy Coping: When you think of food as emotional ways out, try to ask yourself these questions. Will this food make me feel better or worse after I eat it? Will it make me feel better or worse tomorrow? Will it make me feel better or worse about myself?  There are so many things that you can do today such as eating too much, sleeping too much, not sleeping enough, procrastinating, sitting on the couch too much and so forth; that is negative coping. We want to think positive; think about what is going to make you feel good and what is going to improve your day! Whether that is by choosing healthy foods that make you feel good, exercising, or playing a game with your family; its simple. Find what makes you happy and choose what makes you feel healthy.

4.     Conquer the hard times: There will be times where you are having a bad week and you just want to give in and quit. There are times when you want to cheat and eat that bowl of ice cream. There will be times where you loose sight of the goal you want to achieve. Life will always be a constant chaos. The secret to weight loss success is being able to keep a healthy lifestyle even in the midst of chaos. If you gain weight every time life gets stressful, your weight will always go up and down. You have to believe in yourself in times of trials and disorder, fight through the problems and challenges and keep going. The hard times will never get easier, but you will get stronger and be able to handle them. Once you can conquer the hard times you will develop the confidence to reach all of your goals, to do the things you want no matter the difficulties.

5.     Distract yourself: Everyone goes through stressful weeks, whether it’s because of a tough week at work, school, and a fight with your spouse or an all around low mood. Sometimes stressful weeks make it harder for us to eat healthy. When you’re fighting those cravings, but you just cannot do it any longer, try to distract yourself. Find alternatives that will help you overcome those cravings. Distractions can be anything such as calling a friend or family member, going for a run, reading a book, making a craft, and/or playing a game. Do something that you enjoy; it can be a simple activity such as getting on a social media site and getting lost in what is happening.

6.     Exercise Regularly:  Your body will reward you when you exercise. It helps unwind you and forget about those things that are making you stressed. If you are having food temptations that you cannot get over, go exercise. Beth Israel, Deaconess Medical Center in Boston stated that exercise is a great way to deal with food temptation. It helps to strengthen the brain’s powers of executive function, thinking ahead and controlling inhibitions, which makes it easier to say no to a second helping of dessert.2 It is also said that Yoga can help you deal with temptations and be a more mindful eater. It helps create body awareness, reduces the fight or flight emotion you get when you’re stressed out, and it increases your levels of serotonin and dopamine, which help you mood.

7.     Get Enough Sleep: It’s very important to take care of your body and one of the biggest ways to do that is by getting enough sleep. When you get enough sleep, it is shown that you reduce your cortisol levels. Cortisol is the hormone that increases when you’re stressed or anxious. It causes an increase in blood sugar, suppresses the immune system and assists in the metabolism of fat, protein and carbohydrate.  Dr. Jacobs said, “Not getting enough sleep contributes to depression, irritability, and reduced ability to control stress and anxiety. All of these things will further contribute to vulnerability for emotional eating in at risk individuals.” Along with getting enough sleep, when you sleep, and how long also has an impact. Eating when we should be sleeping may increase the risk of weight gain, as the body is more likely to turn nighttime calories into fat rather than burning them off.

8.     Stop Negative Talk: One of the biggest problems we have is that we have negative self-talk about our self. We often judge our self by our appearance and how we think we should look and that can make us get depressed. The judgments we make about our self can bring us down and make us feel discouraged. We are all guilty of this, just simply stray away from doing it. Each time you say something such as “I’m stupid,” or “You’ll never be that good,” or “You should stop trying,” write it down. Then think, would I say these words to my mom, spouse or friend? Most of the time the response will be no. If you are not willing to say those hurtful words to someone else, then do not say them to yourself.

9.     Healthy Options First: Make it a goal to eat three healthy foods before eating a comfort food. If after that, you still want to eat your comfort food, you can. Most of the time those three healthy options will be enough to satisfy your cravings and you will forget about the other food you wanted. That way you will consciously think about eating something good before you can give into those temptations. You will have more success than just telling yourself no.

10.  Take Away Temptation: The more junk food you buy and leave in your house the more you are going to eat it. It’s as simple as this: do not buy it. You cannot give into those late night cravings if you don’t have it as an option in your house. To go along with that, make sure you go to the store when you are in a good mood, when you are full, or after you have exercised. If you are in a good mood you’re more likely to buy healthier options rather than ones that will be more of a luxury. If you are full, you will have fewer temptations to throw in snacks and high fat options. If you go to the gym and then go buy groceries, you are more likely to buy healthier options because you will be feeling great about your workout and you have more of a satisfying feeling of life.

or anyone that is having problems with getting light headed.
Light Headed

Features: The sensation of feeling lightheaded is similar to feeling dizzy but without the sensation of the room spinning. Feeling lightheaded often feels like you are just about to faint. The main mechanism that leads feeling lightheaded, regardless of the underlying cause, is lack of blood flow and oxygen to the brain. Other symptoms such as dizziness, fatigue and confusion can accompany the sensation of feeling lightheaded.

Sunday Talk

Thursday evening we got a phone call asking to speak in Sacrament, Kooper said let me talk to the wife and I’ll call ya back. Right when he told me, my response was with a serious face. NO! He can’t give us 3 days. Kooper thought I was being serious and went to call back surly I was kidding I'd never say no. It  couldn’t of been a better day to talk. We were asked to talk about General Conference. Which I thought would be extremely easy because there is so many talks I liked.  Looking back at some of the notes I took I realized that I like almost every talk, but which do I pick? I love general conference, I love hearing what the prophet, and apostles of God have to say to us. I used to always think of conference as naptime, the elder brethren have such peaceful voices that can put me to sleep so fast.  However, I have grown to truly love conference. There are so many questions that can be answered and so many lessons to learn. I thought that for Sunday I would share my talk and what I learned from preparing it.

For my talk I wanted to share points I loved from Elder Hamilton’s talk on Continually holding fast, we have many choices to make as to how we observe the Sabbath day. There will always be some “good” activity that can and should be sacrificed for the better choice of church meeting attendance. Don’t let Sunday church be “just an option” once we make that choice it will be easier to fall away and become less active. Even to add to that sometimes we get in the habit of running late or skipping out on some of our church meetings. Elder Hamilton briefly described why we have each meeting. Sacrament is for providing the opportunity to participate in the ordinance of the sacrament. Sunday School allows us to “teach one another the doctrines of the kingdom”, Priesthood meetings are a time for men and young men to learn their duty and to be instructed more perfectly, and Relief Society provides the women an opportunity to increase their faith, strengthen their families and homes, and help those in need. Each meeting is just as important as the other. Attend church, attend all three meetings, and arrive on time, you have no idea the importance your attendance will have on your posterity. If you stop going, it will affect every generation after you, or it will set the wrong examples to those surrounding you. Teach and learn from those around us, we are a ward family and have so much to share with each other.  As we take Christ’s name upon us, it is expected that we strive to emulate his attributes and change our character to become more like him.  Christ-like attributes are gifts from God, as we use our agency righteously. How do we become more like Christ? Well we can start by becoming humble. D&C 112:10 “Be thou humble; and the Lord they God shall lead thee by the hand, and give thee answer to thy prayers.

I am going to switch talks to Elder Ballard’s now about putting your trust in the Lord. There seemed to be a few themes for this conference and one of them was sharing the gospel. We want to give the world a chance to hear and accept the gospel.  We are asked to quicken our pace, working together to build up the church and kingdom of God. The Lord wants his gospel to be spread, and he is trying to do that at a quick pace, as you’ve seen from the numbers of new missionaries. Don’t be scared! Pray for opportunities to share the gospel, anyone is capable of doing it. Elder Ballard stated” It is impossible for us to fail when we do our best when we are on the Lord’s errand.” How could we possibly fail with that great promise? The key to missionary work is that you be inspired of God, ask him for direction and then go and do as the spirit prompts you to. The Lord has provided us with so many resources to spread the gospel; lets take advantage of them and use them! The greatest part about missionary work is that you don’t have to be a full time missionary to share the gospel anyone can do it. When I was 9 years old I had an activities day leader who had my name on her roll. She went out of her comfort zone and came to my house over and over to invite me to church. There were days she would come planning on me coming and I never did but she didn’t get discouraged, she kept coming! And through it all I ended up getting baptized, just because she had faith in me and never gave up. Shortly after getting baptized I moved and once again had no one to go to church with. Heavenly Father blessed me with a best friend that invited me to church when I was 10 years old. How much courage does it take for a 10 year old to ask someone to come to church with her? For the next few years I got a phone call every Sunday from a member of her family asking if I wanted to go to church with them. I was on and off and went through phases, but that didn’t matter to them. They never gave up on me either! Soon I found my testimony and what I loved so much about the church. I was lucky enough to have those people in my life; I know that missionary work is universal. Whoever thought you had to be a missionary to share the gospel was wrong.  The first step is to find someone.

Going off missionary work, let us be the ones to comfort those that feel alone, to be there for a brother or sister in the ward, to help a struggling family member or neighbor. Just remember that others can be having a hard trial in their life.. I wanted to share a story that President Monson shared a couple weeks ago in the Relief Society Broadcast. One day this lady made her homemade bread and for some reason she was prompted to make two instead of one. After she made one loaf she still didn't know what to do with it, on her way into town she brought it with her. She had a strange feeling to take the second loaf across town to a lady she hardly knew. Acting on this prompting she listened to the spirit and dropped it off. Little did she know that was all this lady was desperately wanting. It became an obvious sign to the lady that her Heavenly Father was aware of her needs and loved her enough to send help, and respond to her cries for relief. To read the full version you can go to here. Will we rely on the spirit to guide us to them and to be a light for them? Remember that your Heavenly Father loves each of you, that love never changes, its not influenced by your appearance, your possessions, its not changed by your talents and abilities, its simply there.

We are able to do missionary work ourselves at this time. It can be as simple as posting something on Facebook, you never know who is needed to hear those words or who is reading. My dad and both brothers in my family are not members of the church and I still love them. I know that if I continue to live as an example one day they will learn of the gospel. The other day I mentioned to one of my brothers when they have a baby if Kooper would be able to bless them, and they said what is a blessing. That was just a great experience to me and maybe it didn't mean anything to him but I was able to share a little more with him.  I know this gospel is the truth, I love it and I live it with all my heart :)

Happy Sunday I hope you enjoy this!

The life of a farmer consists of waking up early early in the morning. When its Harvest time some times it can be 2am or 3am you just never know. But for the most part everyday at 7:30 Kooper was out the door.

No-reply Blogger

Are you not receiving replies to the nice comments that you leave on other peoples blogs? Do you have to go back to their blog to see if they replied? The reason you're not getting the replies may be because you are a noreply-comment on blogger.

Sweet Veronica from passionpinkandpearls.blogspot left me a comment telling me that I was a no-reply blogger. I had no idea and no idea how to fix that! However google is amazing and there are people that have put amazing sites and information out there. This is mostly a post so I don't forget but for anyone else of my friends that have this problem!

Blogger Profile - follow steps 5-7
Google+ Profile - follow steps 2-9

Step 1 - Check to see if you are a noreply blogger
  • Make a comment on your own blog
  • Check your email to see if you received the comment
  • Check to see who the email is from. Is it your email address? or "noreply-comment@blogger.com
  • If it is from noreply-comment@blogger.com, than you are a No-Reply Blogger and will need to make some changes.

Step 2 - Go to your Blogger dashboard
  • Click on the gear in the upper right hand corner
  • Choose "Revert to Blogger Profile" (this is only temporary)

Step 3 - Switch your Profile
  • Click on "Switch to a limited Blogger Profile"

Step 4 - Confirm your Profile
  • Fill out "Display Name"
  • Click on " Continue to Blogger"

Step 5 - Back to the Blogger dashboard
  • Click on your name in the upper right hand corner
  • In the drop down box click on "Blogger Profile"

Step 6 - Edit your Profile
  • Click on "Edit Profile" in the upper right hand corner

Step 7 - Changing Email Settings
  • Check the box "Show my Email Address"
  • Click on "Save Profile" at the bottom of the page
Step 8 - Switching back to Google+
  • Go back to your blogs dash board
  • Click on "Google+
  • On the next page click on "Upgrade to Google+"
Step 9 - Connect to Google+
  • At the bottom of the page check the box
  • Click on "Switch Now"
Now you will be able to view all of the replies to your comments.

UPDATE: Be sure to check your status periodically! I've found that it can revert back to a no-reply status. I haven't figured out why yet, but my best guess is that it has something to do with making changes to either Blogger or Google+. I've made it a habit to check it whenever I make any changes and I also check it once a month just to be sure.
